About

My name is Nicholas Shea, and I’ve been copyediting novels, web content, and technical documents for nearly a decade. As a lifelong reader, I naturally started my literary career as a bookseller at a well-known retail chain where the beguiling smell of coffee, pastries, and paper hoodwinks even the stingiest of shoppers into opening their wallets.

My editorial background is rooted in Portland State’s graduate book publishing program and my tenure as copy chief of Ooligan Press, in addition to my current role as a writer/editor at Vanderbilt University and eight years of freelance editing. I’ve worked on everything from affordable housing proposals to email campaigns to online articles to novels spanning regional fiction, young adult fiction, historical romance, and music history. Moreover, I’ve written articles on diversity in publishing and promoting ethical editorial practices to prevent whitewashing in literature, which have been featured in Publishing Research Quarterly.

I believe every voice is unique and deserving of respect, and I would love the opportunity to bring your vision to life.
